Even though PWDS represent 15% of the world’s population, their rights in our daily actions have been neglected, reason being that the social and medical approach had been mostly used, till the avenue of the right based approach used by the Disability Inclusive Humanitarian Action project (DIHA). DIHA resulting from the Socio-economic Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SEEPD) project, which has as objective to redress this sad situation by lobbing and advocating for PWDs to be included and participate in all community activities and enjoy their full rights as any other Human being. It is for this reason that the DIHA project came into existence to capacitate organizations on disability mainstreaming and inclusive actions to close this gap. PWDs have for a very long time been excluded in community actions. In this light the DIHA project which is carried out by the CBCHS in collaboration with the CBM has done series of trainings on disability mainstreaming, capacity building to various CSOs and OPDs . This report is in line with the restitution workshop carried out at the IDF head office. The main objective of the workshop was to restitute the various trainings or workshops attended at the CBCHS organized by the DIHA project on disability mainstreaming, and the specific objectives were: To share the basic knowledge on disability, to share basic knowledge on disability mainstreaming, to share basic knowledge on mental health and GBV in the context of disability. to know what data management is and tools to capture disability.
The restitution workshop comprised of various diversity of thematic presented which permitted the grasp of the basic knowledge on disability mainstreaming, tools to better capture disability was, a long discussion on sexual Gender based violence, Communication with PWDs and tips to use to avoid hutting them when communicating or addressing them.
The workshop was lively due to the active participation of the president of the Community Resource Centre for The Disabled and Disadvantaged (CRCDD) in person Miss Limen Florence. Many lessons were learnt throughout the two days’ workshop by the participants who did not hide their joy and recommended that such workshops be done more often. Facilitators did their best and were appreciated by the participants. The workshop ended with an open session of discussions and other contributions.
The main objective of the workshop
To restitute the content of the various trainings or workshops attended at the CBCHS organised in the framework of DIHA project on disability mainstreaming.
Specific objectives:
- To share basic knowledge on disability
- To share basic knowledge on disability mainstreaming
- To share basic knowledge on mental health and GBV in the context of disability.
- To know what data management is and tools to capture disability.
- To know how to communicate with PWDs through appropriate language and words.
- To produce a plan of action to guide the disability mainstreaming activities in IDF
Expected results
- Participants acquired basic knowledge on disability and disability mainstreaming
- Participants have seen the importance of disability mainstreaming and are ready to apply in their various activities
- Participants have contributed in the production of a plan of action to mainstream disability in their various activities.
